Coupled with the launch of a Self-Service Test Data Portal, configurations that once required painstaking manual setup are now executed with a few clicks. The Multiplexer solution has been so successful and valuable that it has been implemented across three other Vodafone domains as well. With each additional rollout, the total cost of ownership drops as efficiencies of scale are realised.

We are thrilled to announce that Sandhata has won 2 awards at the recent UK Business Tech Awards 2022!

The UK Business Tech Awards celebrate the UK’s finest tech businesses and rewards innovative and exceptional application of technology to transform and grow businesses.

1. Best Use of Data – API Directory

Our first award win, in partnership with Vodafone UK, is for Best Use of Data.

The API Directory project built a bespoke, fully automated, self-service API Directory dashboard which put up-to-date, complete application insights in the hands of the users. This dashboard is self-service and provides the application team and external teams a single view of end-to-end config, performance data and artefacts across 1000+ APIs.

The final Directory is fully automated and available to view on mobile.

This project addressed data sprawl across 6 completely different types of data. The biggest challenge was ensuring that every API was accounted for and the data was fully accurate. The team worked very hard to ensure that the Directory was complete, and the end result was really worth it!

2. Transformation through Technology – DXL Digital Transformation

Our second award win, in partnership with Vodafone Group, is for Transformation through Technology.

The DXL Digital Transformation project built a brand new middleware layer for Vodafone Group. This created REST-native, high performance APIs, enabling Vodafone Group to provide better service to its high profile, critical corporate customers.

The team embraced a microservices architecture, taking advantage of open-source technologies and baking in automation right from the start. They built a full business process automation framework to keep logic out of microservices for maximum maintainability. In addition, the team built a new user-friendly catalogue of DXL services which provides accessibility of information and improves transparency across the whole system for all stakeholders.

Tell us about your role at Sandhata

My name is Yamini Sathrasala. I am a consultant, currently working as an Managed File Transfer (MFT) developer for one of our clients, Vodafone.

What was your experience joining Sandhata as a fresher?

I graduated with MCA (Master of Computer Applications) and joined Sandhata in October 2019 as a fresher. I didn’t know how the office environment would be and was nervous to start a job in a new company as a fresher (as I felt like I would be at the bottom).

Despite my nerves, Sandhata treated me very well in every aspect. As I was one of the youngest people in the Chennai office when I joined, my colleagues were very caring and looked after me. Being a fresher with no experience of an office environment, it’s difficult to mingle in the work environment, but all my colleagues helped and supported me in many situations, both personal or professional.

When I joined Sandhata initially I worked with one of our financial clients for 6 months before being placed with my current client.

Which projects are you currently working on?

Currently I am working in the MFT team on a secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) tool between sources and destinations. I do MFT development and support releases.

When I was placed in MFT team, I was a bit scared to go to there initially. But my managers encouraged me by telling me the importance of MFT and how training will be given to upskill me. They also encouraged me by saying “It is an opportunity for you. Initially it will be difficult but by working on it then you will get the hang of it and learn some new skills.” So, I am getting better now. I have learnt a lot in MFT and am assigned to many MFT tasks now.

How have you benefitted from joining Sandhata?

In my time at Sandhata, I have gained confidence to explore things myself, improve myself and learnt how to overcome difficult situations.

Sandhata will provide the opportunities, we need to push ourselves to explore them.

What is Sandhata like as an employer?

Sandhata treats its employees very well. The office environment is very friendly and there is no superiority complex with any of the team. Sandhata will provide many career opportunities to all by providing training, and other opportunities for team members to learn new skills and use them. Sandhata will engage you in extra curricular activities as well, for example during festivals and other special days.

Regarding health, Sandhata is very considerate and aware of employee needs. In my case, I faced a health problem once. I am diagnosed with kidney stones and needed to take leave. Sandhata management accepted my sudden leaves with no issues and were concerned about my health. When I returned to work they took good care of me very well, and gave suggestions and advice also.

I know I am lucky here at Sandhata. My friends are also working in software companies, but if they want leave because of a health problem, they sometimes struggle to get leave easily.

I am proud of Sandhata, as it treats employees well in all aspects, looking beyond the “resource” to the actual person.

How has your time at Sandhata shaped your career?

Sandhata has helped me improve my skills in communicating with senior people and I have had the opportunity to learn many different things in a work environment. I came from a small town in India (Srikalahasthi, Andhra Pradesh) and completed all my studies there (schooling, degree and post graduate). Now no one can believe that I have completed my schooling in my local government high school because of my good communication skills and my position in Sandhata. I have used all the opportunities I have been given and now I am the only women who is working equally to my brothers in my family.

What’s next for you?

I will deepen my experience in MFT and TIBCO BW. I am hoping to gain skills in many other areas as well, for example Python. The experience and training I have provided to others in the TIL and MFT areas makes me confident I can gain other skills as well.

Our project, the “TIL Transformation Project – Test automation and Service Virtualisation” is a finalist in category: Best Overall Testing Project – Communication Sector.

Now in its eighth year the Deloitte European Software Testing Awards celebrate companies and individuals who have accomplished significant achievements in the software testing and quality assurance market.

Why does the TIL Transformation Project deserve this award?

Our Sandhata team, in partnership with Vodafone UK, have been working on the TIL Transformation Project for more than a year. It is a wide-sweeping project which has brought DevOps solutions and full automation to every part of the SDLC in the Integration Domain. This project continues to deliver benefits for the team as new capabilities are introduced.

This year, Phase 2 of the project has focused on Test automation and Service Virtualisation. The build, deploy and release automation capabilities which were part of Phase 1 provided a strong foundation for us to implement the next stage of automation.

The test automation framework is extensible and will cater to the 1000+ APIs within the Integration domain, enabling full regression testing to be performed, which was previously not possible. In addition to a service virtualisation framework spanning the backend dependencies, we also delivered a fully automated API Directory which provides self-service capabilities to the whole team, and an innovative solution to handle test environment constraints.

Our team has worked hard for this finalist nomination, and this project resulted in a fantastic solution for our client, Vodafone UK. Good luck to our team and to Vodafone UK on awards night!

This year we built full test automation and regression capability, a service virtualisation framework spanning the backend dependencies, a fully automated API Directory which provides self-service capabilities to the whole team, and an innovative solution to handle test environment constraints.

This project continues to boost the Middleware platform to the next level, introducing fundamental change and new capabilities which will ensure that the Middleware platform is able to meet the ever-changing needs of the business in the future.

This transformation project has driven significant improvements across the whole division including one click deployment and a huge increase in the speed of the application releases (from two days to minutes). The DevOps best practices and behaviours which have been adopted have been a catalyst for a step change in team engagement, productivity and quality. This project, in the first year, has resulted in an overall cost saving of £3.3 million already!

The DevOps Industry Awards celebrate the companies and individuals who have accomplished significant achievements when incorporating and adopting DevOps practices. The awards are judged by an independent panel of judges from some of the world’s biggest organisations.

Sandhata, in partnership with Vodafone UK, initiated the TIL Transformation Project to completely overhaul the way change is delivered in the Vodafone UK Integration Domain. The TIL application (middleware system) processes 100 million messages per day through 1000 APIs and is critical to the day-to-day operations of Vodafone. This project introduced full automation, touching all parts of the delivery lifecycle, and resulted in a step change in the capability to meet business demands.

This project has also had a marked impact on the Integration team’s day-to-day tasks, introducing efficiencies and enabling team members to focus on coming up with innovative solutions to the most important business problems. It has also resulted in massive cost savings related to time consuming and error prone manual tasks which have now been automated.

The project team comprised of Vodafone UK and Vodafone VOIS, with management, technical direction and delivery provided by Sandhata Technologies.
